Dewdrops Cakes Factory has said skills training will reduce unemployment and also uphold the standard in the baking industry.
Ezinne Okonkwo, managing director, and chief executive of Dewdrops Cakes Limited called on the government to continue to help the industry by reducing the duties and taxes. She added that this will help the industry as there are bakers who are working from home to make ends meet due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
The third edition of the two-day bakers’ seminar themed; “Revamping the Craft” was held on September 5 and 6, 2022 at the Eko Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. The initiative was created to equip early-stage bakers in the baking and confectionery sector with the skills and tools needed to run a successful baking business. The training event featured A-list bakers such as Yolanda Gampp, Tosan Jemide, Ayodeji Babjide, Ikeolu Biobaku, Christopher Okpoko, Ngozi Azubuike, and Siku Adewuyi.
Participants from the well-attended event also provided positive feedback from the sessions. They were also exposed to a number of topics covering the craft revamp.
“One of the participants, Chris Edeh from Emmpek Farms, said that this is the biggest gathering of bakers in Africa he has seen. He also commended the collaboration and access to market the event brought to the industry. It was a beautiful experience with a lot of knowledge through networking sessions with fellow bakers. I feel like a brand new baker now,” another participant said.
This is an empowerment programme and a little way of giving back to society, Okonkwo disclosed at the press briefing during the event on Monday.
